How to Cold DM a Brand Without Being Cringe

May 13, 2026

We didn't casually DM Alienkind. We engineered the approach.

Before a single message was sent, we spent hours ideating how to position ourselves in a way that didn't feel like another random "let's collaborate" request. We built an actual pitch ecosystem around them. There were brainstorming sessions, back-and-forths with our project manager, and a full pitch deck that mapped out creative concepts tailored specifically to their brand. The goal wasn't just to get noticed, it was to show we had already done the work.

Alongside the deck, we created a trendy reel featuring us ordering and eating Alienkind, turning their product into content before any partnership existed. Instead of waiting for permission, we demonstrated proof of execution. We also planned a social first strategy: teasing Alienkind through sneak peeks on our Instagram stories from both Blend Community and Blend Studio, then gradually escalating into a formal pitch.

What we didn't expect was that the sneak peek would become the turning point.

We had posted the teaser and moved on, busy with other shoots, completely forgetting to check our story analytics. Later, we realized Alienkind had already seen it and replied with the eyes emoji. That tiny reaction felt massive. It meant we were on their radar.

From there, we doubled down. We published the reel, reached out through Instagram and LinkedIn, and tried every available channel. LinkedIn became a small obstacle because we didn't have premium access to message unknown contacts, which forced us to rethink outreach and rely more heavily on organic visibility and persistence.

We were even planning a guerrilla style move: shooting content outside their Indiranagar store after another scheduled shoot, just to keep momentum alive. The mindset was simple, if they weren't replying yet, we'd keep creating until they couldn't ignore us.

Then it happened.

In the middle of another shoot, we received a message from Alienkind: a direct contact number and instructions to reach out. The timing was surreal. The entire team exploded with excitement. Screenshots flew into the group chat. Our agency head, community manager, and social team all jumped in at once. It felt like validation for every hour we'd spent planning, filming, and pushing through silence.

From there, our social media lead took over conversations and moved the collaboration forward. Looking back, the biggest lesson wasn't about writing the perfect DM. It was about building visibility before the task. We didn't wait to be chosen. We acted like collaborators first, and the brand caught up to the energy we were already putting out.

Cold outreach isn't magic. It's persistence, strategy, and showing your work loudly enough that the right people eventually notice.
